Spazi docili realizzerà nelle giornate di martedì 20 e di mercoledì 21 ottobre 2009, presso la piazza del Mercato di San Lorenzo, una statua di Sant'Orsola. La figura verrà composta adoperando materiali forniti spontaneamente e gratuitamente dai commercianti della zona e sarà realizzata con l'aiuto della gente del quartiere, dei negozianti e dei fruitori del mercato.
L'intervento mira a sensibilizzare la città di Firenze e la sua classe politica sullo stato d'abbandono del monastero trecentesco di Sant'Orsola, ubicato nei pressi del mercato e abbandonato da decenni. Un vero e proprio "edificio in prigione", tuttora circondato da quattro alti muri di cemento che lo rendono totalmente inaccessibile e invisibile.
Il 21 ottobre, giorno dedicato al culto della santa, la statua verrà portata in processione. La scultura non avrà nessun intento strettamente connesso al culto, nè sarà un'opera preconfezionata dal punto di vista estetico. Costituirà, invece, un'importante opportunità per incontrare la gente della zona, per facilitare il dialogo in uno dei quartieri più antichi e in continua trasformazione di Firenze e per tenere alta l'attenzione sul futuro della struttura di Sant'Orsola.
During the days of Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st October, in the San Lorenzo street market square, Spazi Docili [Docile Spaces] will produce a statue of Sant'Orsola (Saint Ursula). It will be created using different materials spontaneously and freely provided by the local shopkeepers. The people of the quarter, the shopkeepers and the market's customers will help us to make it.
We want in this way to make the Florence citizens and politicians aware about the situation of the Sant'Orsola Convent, a XIV century Monastery placed near the market and abandoned for decades. A "building in prison", still surrounded by four tall cement walls which make it completely inaccessible and invisible!
On October 21st, the day devoted to the cult of the Saint, the statue will be carried in a procession. The statue will not be tied in any way to the cult and will not be produced on the basis of a predetermined esthetic concept. It is supposed to be an important occasion to meet the people of the area, to make easier to dialog in one of the most ancient and changing Florence quarters and to keep to pay attention to the future of the Sant'Orsola Convent.
